MLC 2006 vs U.S Coast Guard

By July 9, 2013 General No Comments

Got yacht crew? Touring in U.S waters? A great deal has been said ahead of the new MLC 2006 soon to be taking effect. However, the United States is yet to ratify the Maritime Labour Convention 2006. As it turns out the U.S will not mandate enforcement on U.S. vessels or upon foreign vessels while navigating within U.S. Waters. A (SOVC) Statesmen of Voluntary Compliance will be issued to vessels that comply with the Maritime Labor Convention.
USCG Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular (NVIC) eNo. nEW-13 states “U.S. commercial vessels over 500 GT ITC on international voyages, also U.S. commercial vessels, may be ‘certified’ and demonstrate compliance thorugh possession of SOVC-MLC in keeping with Regulation 5.1.3 of the MLC, 2006.
